District court activity report released

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County District Judge Julie A. LaCost has issued her activity report for the month of October 2018.

New criminal cases for the month included 19 felonies, 34 misdemeanors, four OWIL/OUI misdemeanors and two felony drunk driving. New civil cases for the month included 20 general civil cases, 11 small claims cases, 13 landlord/tenant disputes and one summary proceeding. New traffic cases for the month included 81 civil infractions, 20 misdemeanors and five non-traffic civil infractions.

Criminal dispositions for the month included five felony guilty pleas, 12 felony preliminary exams of which 11 were waived over to circuit court and one bound over to circuit court. Civil Dispositions for the month included 36 general civil, 21 small claims and eight landlord tenant.

The District Court handled six court trials, five probation violations, two drug-sobriety court referrals, six defendants were referred to the Alcohol Highway Safety Program, two defendants were referred to the shoplifters counseling program, eight defendants were referred to the sheriff’s work van, 11 defendants were referred to alcohol counseling. There were 10 show cause hearings and four marriage ceremonies.

Funds turned over to the county treasurer totalled $67,609.55. Funds turned over to the court trust totalled $18,915.06.
