Fatal crash in Houghton County

CALUMET — A Chassel man died after he failed to stop at a U.S. 41 intersection and his vehicle was struck by a logging truck, Michigan State Police reported.

Troopers from the MSP Calumet Post witnessed the crash. A 2007 Infiniti driven by Alexander James Fisher was westbound on Denton Road about 10 a.m. Friday when it went into U.S. 41 without stopping and into the path of a southbound 2019 Kenworth logging truck driven by 49-year-old Gregory Keranen of Pelkie, according to the MSP post.

Fisher, 19, was pronounced dead at the crash site.

Assisting were the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Houghton Police Department, Michigan Technological University Public Safety, Laurium Police Department, Mercy EMS, Chassell first responders, Hurontown Fire and Rescue and Superior Service.
