IM police identify woman found in dumpster
IRON MOUNTAIN — Authorities have identified a woman whose body was discovered Tuesday morning in a dumpster behind the Goodwill Industries store and released details on how she died.
Shelley Bowman, 59, of Iron Mountain, apparently slipped and fell head-first into an approximately 5-feet-deep open space within the dumpster while looking for items, the Iron Mountain Police Department stated in a news release.
The preliminary cause of death, pending toxicology results, is accidental positional asphyxiation, according to the department.
The body was found about 8:55 a.m. Tuesday behind the building at 1858 S. Stephenson Ave. in the retail strip mall off U.S. 2 on the city’s south side.
Iron Mountain police were assisted by Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, the Kingsford Public Safety Department and the Michigan State Police.
