IRON MOUNTAIN — Isolated snow showers are predicted for Tuesday as temperatures will begin to fall in the wake of a winter storm that delivered a half-foot of snow by this morning and closed area schools for the day.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high of 32, but temperatures are expected to drop to 26 in the afternoon with wind gusts as high as 25 mph, the National Weather Service said. Wednesday should be mostly cloudy, with highs in the teens.

Up to 7 inches of snow was expected from today’s storm, which by late morning had delivered about 6 1/2 inches. A mix of snow and light rain was expected to ease by afternoon with a high of 37 predicted.

Gusting winds added to travel difficulties, with blowing snow reducing visibility. Today’s predicted high was 36 degrees.

Few traffic problems, however, were reported early from the storm, law enforcement said.
