Officials say tattoos used to ID Menominee County body

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say tattoos on the body of a South Dakota woman found in a river in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula helped identify her because she had been dismembered.

Prosecutors have charged Stephen Falkenberg with killing 46-year-old Tamara LaFramboise in Yankton, S.D., and dumping her body in Menominee County, not far from where Falkenberg’s brother lives. Authorities said the victim’s head, hands and feet remain missing.

Court documents state Falkenberg told his sister in South Dakota he dismembered LaFramboise’s body in an attempt to conceal her identity. Her body was found Saturday.

A probable cause affidavit said Falkenberg told his sister he had an argument with LaFramboise at her Yankton apartment and when he pushed her, she hit her head and died.

It was not immediately clear if Falkenberg has hired an attorney.
