CRYSTAL FALLS — William “Bill” Berry Yates, 54, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1962, in Fort Leonardwood, Mo., son of Morris and Nancy (Phillips) Yates Sr. He attended school in Crystal Falls, graduating from Forest Park High School in 1980.
He went on to receive a degree in electrical engineering from ITT Tech and then on to Lawrence Tech.
Bill moved downstate for a time, returning home 10 years ago and going to work for Magiglide as the plant manager. In his free time, he loved hunting and fishing, being outdoors, was where he was happiest. His dogs were his babies and his constant companions both at home and in the woods.
Bill is survived by his parents, Morris and Nancy Yates Sr. of Crystal Falls; his daughters, Amanda (Stanley) Scott II of Grand Rapids, and Danielle Yates of Detroit; grandchildren, Ava Scott, Stanley Scott III, and Savannah Tucker; his brother, Morris (Connie) Yates of Crystal Falls; his nephews — who were like sons to him, Nicolas and Noah Yates; and his dogs, his pride and joy, Paint River Danielle and Paint River Samantha.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Lee Tucker Jr.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls.
The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Cheryle Spicer will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
