Delores May “Dee” Johnson
GRANITE BLUFF — Delores May “Dee” Johnson, 87, of Granite Bluff, passed away on Dec. 26, 2017, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford.
She was born on Nov. 22, 1930, in her home town of Kingsford, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Tremain) Lange. Dee attended Kingsford High School and graduated in 1949. She married Carl Johnson on Nov. 12, 1949, at First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Together they shared a devoted marriage for 58 years and built a home in Granite Bluff where they raised their three children, all of whom also built homes there. Carl preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2007.
Dee was an excellent cook. She enjoyed wildlife, being outdoors, brook trout fishing, sewing, making ceramics and oil painting. She proudly shot her first bear at the age of 72. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family and she loved watching her grandchildren perform at various events.
Dee leaves behind her three children, Ward (LeeAnn) Johnson, Carla (Mike) Hiatt and Lynn Walsh; eight grandchildren, Kate (Josh) Jacobs, Tracy (Jim) Anderson, Alex Hiatt (Steph Kucej), Fawn Polkinghorne, Dustin Johnson (Johanna Sparrman), Tierney (Kyle) Arcand, Lacey (Dalton) Allen and Tanner Walsh; four precious great-grandchildren, Oliver Polkinghorne, Jack and Jane Anderson and Carter Arcand; sisters-in-law, Beverly Johnson and Janice Lange; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with her husband, Carl, and her parents, Walter and Mary, Dee was preceded in death by her infant son, Steven who passed away in 1956; two brothers, Walter and William Lange; two brothers-in-law, William and Jack Johnson; and her son-in-law, Jay Walsh.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Larry Neargarth will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dee’s grandsons, Dustin Johnson, Alex Hiatt, Tanner Walsh, Josh Jacobs, Jim Anderson, Kyle Arcand and Dalton Allen.
Burial will be at Quinnesec Cemetery.
