Dr. Robert G. Calderwood
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — Dr. Robert G. Calderwood, 81, of Spread Eagle, and Goodyear, Ariz., passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville, Wis., Dec. 16, 2017. Family was by his side when he went home to meet his Lord.
Robert was born to Elizabeth and Robert Calderwood Sr. on Feb. 14, 1936, in Chicago. Robert was a maxillofacial surgeon and anesthesiologist of Iron Mountain before moving to Arizona in 1995.
He was married to Suelen Calderwood for 51 years until her passing last year. They were the proud parents of two sons, Robert “Rob” (Dawn), and Scott (Ashley), who blessed them with three grandchildren, Keegan, Geddis and Luna.
Robert had many interests beyond his medical career. As a young man, he was a pilot and flew his own private planes. He believed in buying the tools for a job versus paying someone else to do it. Even owning and working a farm in Florence, Wis., while running his medical practice.
When he “retired,” he and Suelen took to remodeling homes in Arizona. He was most proud of his involvement in ski racing. He became a high-ranking official in the U.S. Ski & Snowboarding Association and a technical delegate in the International Ski Federation. The latter enabled him to travel the world and work numerous World Cup and Olympic events.
A family memorial service will be in the spring at the lake in Wisconsin to celebrate Robert’s life and legacy.
Memorial contributions are welcome at St. Joseph’s Foundation, 350 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
