HAMILTON LAKES — Emil P. Orn, 83, of Hamilton Lakes, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at ManorCare in Kingsford.

Emil was born May 5, 1934, in Chicago, son of the late Emil Sr., and Betty (Jahnke) Orn. He was raised in the Chicago area, and following graduation from Tilden Technical High School he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology. Emil joined the Marine Corps to proudly serve his country from 1956-1958.

He moved to Hamilton Lakes in 1960 and on Sept. 21, 1963, married Judith Sodermark at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. They shared 53 years of devoted marriage.

Emil cherished his family. He was a wonderful father and husband, a generous giver and a very kind man with a gentle soul.

He worked as a draftsman for many years at Lodal Inc., before retiring in 1996.

Emil attended St. Barbaras Catholic Church in Vulcan, and actively participated in various events and projects there. He served on the parish counsel and was very generous to his church. He was a member of the Hamilton Lakes Association and treasurer of the Hamilton Lakes Watershed Project.

Emil lived at ManorCare since May 4, 2016, as a resident, and made many friends there, enjoying his coffee time every morning. He loved to sing and was resident of the month in August 2017.

The nursing staff at ManorCare did a wonderful job taking care of Emil. His daughter Amy would visit him and bring him the things he asked for and wanted. He also was able to go to the home on the lake three times in the summer of 2016. His son David would come visit from Milwaukee and his sister Patricia from Marquette along with many other friends who knew him.

Emil is survived by his daughter, Amy Orn of Hamilton Lakes; his son, David Orn of Milwaukee; a step-son, Mike Johnson of Las Vegas; a sister, Patricia (Clifford) Frenn of Marquette; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Emil was preceded in death by his wife Judy on Aug. 23, 2016.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at St. Barbaras Church in Vulcan. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to The Salvation Army, an organization Emil donated to for more than 35 years.
