HARDWOOD — Margaret A. Rabe, 97, of Hardwood, Formerly of Chicago, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at Pinecrest Medical Facility in Powers.

Margaret was born in Chicago on July 14, 1920, daughter of the late Robert and Ann (Rhonda) Murphy. Margaret spent most of her life in Chicago, where she worked as an elevator operator at Wiebolt’s Department Store. She was a no-nonsense woman who always had a smile on her face.

Margaret moved to the Upper Peninsula in 2008 to be close to her daughter, Margaret, who took wonderful care of her. Margaret had a great love for her family. She also enjoyed playing bingo, visiting casinos, spending time walking in the outdoors, and being involved in her Catholic churches: St. Agnes, St. Joseph, and St. Anne. She also enjoyed shopping and elephants.

Margaret is survived by two sons, William (Mildred) L. Rabe of Channahon, Ill. and Robert (Joan) Rabe of Palos, Ill.; two daughters, Margaret (Jim) Brogan of Hardwood, and Patricia (Robert) Pecher of Portage, Ind.; sister, Shirley Russ; 16 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
