WHEELING, Ill. — Eugene Francis Menghini, 84, entered eternal life on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling.

He was born Sept. 8, 1933, to parents Martha and Louis Menghini of Norway. He graduated from Norway High School in 1951 and studied engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Michigan State University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany with the 101st Airborne Division.

After his service in the Army he returned to Milwaukee, where his German sweetheart Luise Marie Hermann joined him. They were married in August 1957.

He spent the majority of his career with the Gleason Corporation in Milwaukee as vice president of OEM Sales.

He and his wife Marie enjoyed spending time at their homes in Milwaukee and Norway. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and cross country skiing. He was an avid runner and walker.

Eugene was a gentle person who was loved and will be missed by all.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Marie; parents, Martha and Louis Menghini; sister-in-law, Pat Menghini; and grandnephew, Aaron Surrell.

He is survived by a brother, Ray Menghini of Norway; sisters, Diane (James) Healy of Deerfield, Ill., and Annette Greene of Marquette; nieces, Kara (Mark Plaza) Menghini, Karen (Rob) Sheehan, Susan (Steve) Theiss, Linda (Dave) Bisceglia, Katie (Dan) Coughlin, Jane (Matt) Surrell, Renee (Eric) Seaborg, Therese (Peter) Bartlett; and nephews, Greg Menghini, Mark (Jean) Healy, Dan (Patricia) Healy, Tom (Jeanne) Healy; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at St. Barbaras Church in Vulcan, with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis officiating.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.

Arrangements were made with the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
