Robert Sklander

QUINNESEC — Robert Todd “Barbeque Bob” Sklander, 64, of Quinnesec, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

He was born June 3, 1954, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Robert and Lois (May) Sklander.

Bob graduated from Cudahy High School in 1972, and continued his education at MATC, going to night school to receive his bachelor’s degree in culinary arts and nutrition.

He worked as a cook all the way through high school and during his college years at many restaurants. Bob became the dietary manager at Edgewater Nursing Home for many years and also worked as a chef at several golf courses.

Robert married Jacqueline Pancheri on Oct. 23, 1976, in Milwaukee.

In 2009, Bob and Jackie moved to the U.P. and opened the Bear BBQ Restaurant in Vulcan.

He enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, camping, gardening and going to festivals and fairs.

Bob was a people person. He loved to talk with others and make new friends everywhere he went.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jackie; brothers, Keith (Patti) Sklander of Hancock, Wis., and Mike (Linda) Sklander of Franklin, Wis.; sister, Peggy Sklander of Cudahy, Wis.; brother-in-law, James Pancheri of Hartland, Wis.; special niece, Terri (Ron) Goble; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday the church, with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis officiating.

Interment will be held at the Quinnesec Cemetery in the spring.
