Impressed by Forest Park’s program honoring veterans
Bouquets & Barbs
From Bill Leonoff, Crystal Falls:
I attended the program at Forest Park on Nov. 11 to honor area veterans. It was impressive the way the student body was attentive and respectful throughout the program, including during the presentation by the guest speaker, retired Sgt. 1st Class Shannon Reinke. The playing of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful” by the Forest Park band under Norm Vanaman’s direction was stirring. Four members of the Class of 2017 participated in the program. Class President Becky Kolenda led the Pledge of Allegiance. Student Council President Hannah Cross offered closing remarks. Jeremy Johnson and Emily Faccin participated in the folding of the flag with two veterans while MC Doug Weesner explained the purpose of each fold.
After the program, it was most inspiring to see seniors Jeremy, Becky, Hannah and Emily thank and shake hands with each veteran, and to watch many of the student body join the seniors in thanking the veterans for their service to our country.
The Forest Park community has every reason to be proud of its students! Thank you to Superintendent Becky Waters, Middle-High School Principal Lisa Olson and the East Side Veterans Council for coordinating the program.
