Deliver us from evil

EDITOR:

Is the issue really gun control? I do own an old British Enfield 303 bolt action rifle. One year my son thought I had a semi automatic but it’s still a bolt action rifle. The clip is modified to hold only 6 rounds.

I would agree that the original Constitution, the right to bear arms, may not have known of, even thought of, the machine gun, or semi-automatic, or some of the weapons we have today. Perhaps we should reflect on that fact and limit the ability to rapid fire a weapon. But can we make the schools safe by simply controlling the guns?

The deaths at the Boston Marathon in 2013 were not caused by guns but bombs. 9/11 occurred not with guns but airplanes. Oct.31, 2017 — Eight people are killed and almost a dozen injured when a 29-year-old man in a rented pickup truck drives down a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center in New York.

Will controlling the guns control the individuals using them? Will the laws stop those who kill, if they have already determined to take a life? Perhaps we need to look elsewhere for a solution.

Before he was crucified Jesus said: “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts and fornication, thefts, murders, adulteries, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.” Mark 7:7:20-22.

I agree that we need a safe school to learn, but if we do away with God, what will our kids learn? Can we have peace without the God of peace? Can we have safety without a changed heart?

Even if we took away all the guns, and they have in some countries, will not the lawless find a way to kill people?

We need to be rescued from the evil heart in each of us, me included. I need the Jesus of the Bible. Did anyone stop to think that the people who kill other people will not obey the laws imposed on those of us who obey the law?
