From Karen Wertanen, Spread Eagle, Wis., coordinator of the 2016 Florence County Red Kettle campaign:

Dedicated volunteers, participating businesses and generous donors helped the 2016 Red Kettle Campaign reach a total of $5,185.

A sincere thank you goes to all of our bellringers, individual and business donors, and the businesses that offered space for a counter kettle, bell-ringing or paper kettles. Eighty-six percent of these funds stay here in our county to provide emergency assistance to people in need throughout the year and are so appreciated.

The Riverside Liquor and Party Store in Spread Eagle, Pat’s Foods in Florence and the Aurora Liquor Store/BP Station were sites for bell ringing this year and also had counter kettles.

The Florence BP Station, Subway, Barb’s Café, Great North Bank, mBank, Aurora Financial Center, Family Dollar, Spread Eagle Liquor/Marathon Station, Tom and Joe’s, Roadhouse 139 and the Long Lake Store provided space for counter kettles.

The banks also accepted donations for the “paper kettles” to patrons. In addition, donations were received by bellringers at the “Christmas in Florence” event.

Thanks to St. Mary’s Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, Aurora Free Church and the Homestead Baptist Church for organizing volunteer bell-ringers and to Wild Rivers Realty staff for providing several hours of bell-ringing.

Special donations were received from the Florence Utility/WPPI and several individuals. Contributions from the “Christmas in July” bell ringing, counter and paper kettles are included in the 2016 total.
