Help support Conservation District’s work

From Pat Peterson, Norway:

The Dickinson Conservation District recently completed their annual tree sale fundraiser. This fundraiser is a great deal of work and requires volunteer help. The goal is to raise funds to continue the operations of the local district office.

There is another goal involved and that is to promote and sustain our natural resources. The intrinsic value of a tree to the environment is huge.

The work of the Conservation District office touches each and every one of us. Our county is a better place because of the work they do. They strive to make our lakes better, our woods healthier, our invasive species fewer, our environment cleaner and safer. They do this for our well-being and that of the birds, the bees, the animals and the fish that inhabit this area with us.

On June 2 and 3, the Conservation District will have its Native Wildflower Fundraiser. These flowers will provide added beauty wherever you plant them. Native wildflowers provide nectar for butterflies, bees and hummingbirds.

Some flowers like wild bergamot, commonly known as beebalm, have several medicinal uses. Wintergreen has berries that can be eaten.

The district offers approximately 20 species of wildflowers. Support and enjoy the efforts of the Dickinson Conservation District.

From Richard Anderson, secretary-treasurer, Branch 395 of The National Association of Letter Carriers, Iron Mountain:

We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to those in the community who donated to our annual food drive May 13.

Your generosity provided 11,535 pounds of food to local food banks in Iron Mountain, Kingsford and Norway.

We also wish to thank all the volunteers, the U.S. Postal Service and major sponsors, whose help and cooperation made the drive a success.

A special thanks to Pizza Hut and Jimmy John’s for their kind contribution.

This year’s drive was the 25th anniversary of our nationwide food drive.
