Honor Flight says thanks to area for support
Bouquets and Barbs
From Scott Lewellyn, area representative, U.P. Honor Flight:
The U.P. Honor Flight organization would like to sincerely thank everyone in the Dickinson County area who purchased flags and made generous donations to help us honor our veterans in funding future missions to Washington D.C. We also appreciated seeing many veterans and citizens along the Fourth of July parade route stand and offer a salute to recognize the veterans on our float.
Mission XV will leave the Delta County airport on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Welcome Home ceremony will take place about 8:30 p.m. We invite everyone to attend this very special event.
For information on donating or for an applications to participate as a veteran or guardian on future U.P. Honor Flights, go to our website, www.uphonorflight.org.
God bless our veterans.
Fine day Wednesday for antique tractor ride to VA
From Vance Jones, Northwoods Antique Tractor Club, Iron Mountain:
On Wednesday, God gave us a beautiful day for our annual tractor ride to the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
A great thank you to East Kingsford Iron and Metal, Culligan and Dave Grenfell for letting us park our trucks and tractors on their property.
The change was necessary because of the road construction in Aurora, Wis. A great thank you to our local law enforcement for our escort and help with traffic. Also, a thank you to motorists for their patience with our slow-moving tractors.
We had 16 tractors from Menominee, Marinette, Florence, Dickinson and Iron counties, plus six restored cars from the Just Cruzin’ Car Club.
Many veterans from the local VA and from the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Vets in Marquette came to enjoy the display.
We are very grateful to the staff at the VA hospital for the chance to honor our veterans.
