Bay West Gala needs support

We are fortunate in Dickinson County to have such a beautiful campus and resource as Bay College West. Bay West provides opportunities and opens doors for our residents of all ages to improve their lives through education.

The Bay Foundation, a nonprofit organization, will host its second Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, on Bay West’s campus. The proceeds will go to fund scholarships for our local students attending Bay West.

The Gala will provide attendees with the opportunity to meet Gina Wollner, the new manager of Business Development and Community Engagement, plus local professors and past scholarship recipients. It includes entertainment, a strolling dinner, wine and beer tastings and a silent auction.

Bay West has a great deal to offer our community. The school offers two-year associate degree programs and certificate programs. It also partners with a number of universities, including Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University and Lake Superior State University, affording students the opportunity to earn their four-year degrees. For our local students, Bay West offers its dual enrollment program, allowing high school students to start college at the same time they are going to high school, giving our youth a cost-free jump start on their post-high school education.

As citizens, it is our responsibility to support Bay West and use this facility as a community base for education, cultural events and activities. In addition to its educational programs, the school hosts art shows, speakers, nonprofit events and Bay West Life, a lifelong learning program.

We encourage our citizens to support the foundation’s efforts by purchasing tickets to the Gala and enjoying the beautiful campus that is a great contribution to this community. Tickets can be purchased at or contacting one of us: Nancy Finch at; Maddy Tousignant at, or Julie Olson
