IRON MOUNTAIN — City council approval was given at Monday’s meeting to incur engineering costs associated with the Bat Cave Trail project.
The city has learned that the project was being funded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Program. The grant totals $158,400 and the total project is $230,000 including in-kind work by the city and private contributions.
Acting City Manager Jordan Stanchina noted that the only way to have the project completed in 2009 is to get started on the engineering now. He added that the enginee

Christmas traditions
Wed, December 31, 2008 @ 2:00PM
My husband and I sailed through six months of marriage. And we just as easily sailed through the Christmas and New Year’s holidays as a married couple. We started by setting our own Christmas traditions. A week before Christmas, we put up a real Christmas tree. Pat cut a tree down from a neighbor’s property and paid the owner $10. The tree is the perfect size for our house. He put red lights and a red star tree topper on the tree. I then decorated the tree with red and green bulbs from the Dollar Store, regular candy canes and some ornaments we both had from previous years. I also decorated our house with Santa and snowman statues, blue and green Christmas lights and some other Christmas decorations. Since Pat was not into Christmas shopping this year (he would rather ice fish), I bought and wrapped all the gifts for my family. We celebrated Christmas five days early. All went well — lots of good food and a nice family get together. Earlier that day Pat and I finished shopping fo

Take out the garbage

I’m always amazed how many times Hollywood honors itself. No one seems to mention it, but try keeping track of the network productions that name the best dressed, top vocalists, greatest movie moments, etc., etc., etc. Every time you turn on the tube, some Hollywood or music star is holding a golden trophy. No wonder those Hollywood stars believe they are above everyone else. When you think of it, they’re actually a bunch of empty suits. Someone, a script writer, has to give them the words to read, and then someone else, a director, has to show them how to read them. For that, they are honored and glorified. To look at the way most people act, you would think that they are messengers from above. Give me a break. Would you be glued to the tube if the show was about the best tool-maker at a factory? How about a show about the shift worker who had no sick days for two or three years? Don’t get me wrong. Movies and TV are great entertainment. They are a way to pass the time on a
