Division 1 coaches visit Forest Park

Three Division 1 college basketball coaches were in the stands Monday watching Forest Park and Rapid River play volleyball.

I presume they made the trip to see Forest Park standout Lexi Gussert. At this time in the recruiting season, coaches may watch but not talk to the athletes.

UW-Green Bay’s Kevin Borseth along with coaches from Central Michigan and Oakland were on hand. Borseth, a Bessemer native, did some hunting and visited with his parents in Bergland earlier that day.

I spotted Borseth and Forest Park girls basketball coach Jeff Syrjanen chatting across the way. My lip-reading skills are pretty good and it looked like Borseth said, “Jeff, I know Gene Dziubinski invented the shutdown 1-3-1 defense and you perfected it, so I would appreciate any help in that area.” ...
