| | Gipp played basketball, not football, at CalumetOctober 4, 2012 - Burt AngeliAnother George Gipp book is in the works, according to Paul Peterson of The Mining Gazette. Former Wisconsin journalist Jim Lefebvre was in the Copper Country researching the Notre Dame football great from the early 1900s. The late Peter Baudino told Peterson that Gipp had major league baseball talent “When he (Gipp) hit the ball, it made a sound you didn’t hear when other players hit it,” Baudino said. Gipp played for Calumet’s 1914 U.P. championship basketball team but didn’t suit up for football. “It remains one of the true ironies of the Gipp legend that he never played a single down for the CHS football team,” Peterson wrote. | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
