UFO above Norway
July 6, 2009 - Blaine Hyska
We received a couple of reports of a UFO above Norway on Saturday night during the annual July 4 fireworks display.
It seems the UFO was actually a sophisticated firework.
According to a trusted Norway resident, the firework was probably similar to a Chinese lantern/hot air balloon, also known as sky lanterns.
When lit, the firework burns and heats the air inside the device, causing it to rise.
As it burns, the wind carries it in the night sky for about 10-15 minutes.
The view from the ground would be similar to the movements of a UFO flashing and moving erratically. In fact, these sky lanterns are also called UFO balloons, and are available in a variety of colors.
According to the report I received, there were two such devices launched during the Norway fireworks display.
I’m not sure if they are legal in Michigan.
All the warnings about fireworks dangers must work.
There were no reports of any fireworks-related injuries reported in the area over the July 4 weekend.
From what I’ve witnessed, most people who light off their own private fireworks show are pretty safety conscious.
