Working together again

July 22, 2009 - Linda Lobeck
It's taken some time, but it looks like things are settling down in the city of Iron Mountain. I’ve seen a sense of cooperation in the air at recent meetings and that is a positive thing. I’ve been attending the meetings of the council for a lot of years now and there have always been times of conflict. Most recently, there were some very differing views and it looked like the members were split in two different directions. This week's meeting moved along with very little disagreement among the council members. Disagreement is not a bad thing, because we all don't think alike. Differences are good as long as a group can come to some kind of consensus and the business of the city gets done. Council members also need to hear from the public about things that need to be improved, because that is who they are representing. I’ve even seen the public comments at the meetings getting less frequent since things are starting to move forward. It’s also nice to see the discussions about differing opinions not resulting in no action being taken on an issue. So kudos to the Iron Mountain City Council for continuing to work together despite their differences. They are all individuals with ideas of their own. I look forward to seeing more cooperation and city business continue to move along. And my family looks forward to seeing me home earlier on a Monday night!
