Kentucky center No. 1
February 8, 2013 - Burt Angeli
Norway’s Ed Weiland, writing for hoopsanalyst.com, says the “2013 NBA draft is shaping up as a pretty good draft overall.”
“The strength is centers, which is a great thing as the NBA is in a perpetual shortage of quality big men,” Weiland wrote. “It also means the draft is going to be top heavy in big men, because they’re more valuable players.
“The draft will be similar to 2012 in that there is one guy who stands out, followed by a muddled group starting at number 2.”
Anthony Davis stood out last year and another Kentucky big man, Nerlens Noel, leads this year’s group.
Weiland says Noel “toys with opponents on defense. As freshmen centers go, he’s a great passer. His offense is getting better. Noel is an easy choice as the top pick.”
Weiland, who predicted success for Jeremy Lin, ranks Indiana shooting guard Victor Oladipo as the No. 2 NBA prospect. Hoosier teammate, power forward-center Cody Zeller, is seventh.
Michigan was also represented, with point guard Trey Burke, 13th, and power forward-center Mitch McGary, 15th.
