Ready for the NFL season

July 28, 2009 - Terri Castelaz
I have to admit I’m already looking forward to the start of the NFL season. Just a little more than three weeks until the first preseason game.

For those of you who don’t know, I am (and proud to be) a Chicago Bears fan. Like other Bear fans, I am looking forward to see what new quarterback, Jay Cutler can do on the field. The Bears haven’t had a steady quarterback since, well before I was born back in the ‘50s. I really want to count Jim McMahon, since he did win a Super Bowl, and although his tenure might have been short, he remains ranked second on the Bears’ all-time career passing list.

Fans haven’t had much to get excited about since Devin Hester’s opening kickoff return touchdown in the Super Bowl more than two years ago. Many (mostly Packer fans) have said Cutler is too good to be true. We shall see. I know Cutler is not going to be the only problem answered, but it was a major one. The Bears secondary has to get healthy and stay that way for the whole season. With the news of Charles Tillman being out for at least four weeks, it is a good start. But I’m thinking positive he will be back for the opening game against the Green Bay Packers.

Time will tell. Although I’m not quite ready to call Miami to reserve a room for Feb. 7, 2010, but maybe I will be after Chicago’s opening game victory at Lambeau Field on Sept. 13.
