ScuttleBu(r)t ...

Sports Illustrated’s SL Price, who visited Iron Mountain several years ago for a Tom Izzo-Steve Mariucci, crafted a great piece on the Boston Marathon for this week’s issue. There’s information in there not found anyplace else ...

Negaunee’s Mark Ayotte served as an alternate official for three NBA first-round playoff games ...

From the New York Times obit of Frank Bank, 71, also known as Clarence (Lumpy) Rutherford from “Leave it to Beaver:” "Lumpy — a friend of Wally Cleaver (Tony Dow), the older brother of Beaver Cleaver (Jerry Mathers) — was the closest thing the cheerful series had to a bad guy.” ...

Sorry, Vikings fans.

St. Paul Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters, after examining the 2013 schedule, figures a 9-7 regular season record.

“What could be costly, perhaps causing them to miss the playoffs, is giving up a home game to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in London at Wembley Stadium on Sept. 29,” Walters wrote ...

From comedian Bill Cosby: “My favorite line of Fat Albert is, ‘If you pay attention, you just might learn something.” ...

Hanner, who passed away in 2008, once lived in Spread Eagle, Wis. Summerall’s travels, noted Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee JournalSentinel, took him to Green Bay often.

Like most of Ken Hofer’s Menominee foes, Payton didn’t have an answer for those Dallas area youth teams with a single-wing offense.

“I talked to (Bill) Parcells about it and (Jon) Gruden,” Payton said. “We had every defense in the sun and we still hadn’t found the football. I still can’t find it.” ...

From Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim, talking to John Feinstein of the Washington Post: “Coaching is not fun. Going to dinner is fun. Playing golf is fun. Coaching isn’t fun. I don’t know anyone who says coaching is fun and means it. Winning is fun. I think that’s what players will tell you, too. That part is fun. The rest of it is work.”

Boeheim once came to North Dickinson to recruit 7-foot Nordic center Todd Lindeman ...

From Brad Dickson, Omaha World Herald: “The Lehigh Valley IronPigs minor league baseball team installed video game consoles in men’s urinals that you control when you “go.” I think it’s safe to say that the 2013 Nobel Prize in Science race is now over.” ...
