Future Muskie knows soccer

June 17, 2013 - Burt Angeli
Her mother, Tammy, may have built a shrine for baseball great Paul Molitor and can recite the golf stats of Steve Stricker, but Afton Barrows knows her soccer.

While covering Kingsford’s match with Marquette this season, I was most impressed with Afton coming off the field and breaking down the particulars with Flivver coach Todd Formolo.

“Afton knows the game very well and she gets it,” Formolo said of the Flivvers’ defensive captain and four-year player. “She knows the game as well as I do.

“I just hope I know my opposition so I can help them build.”

Afton will play soccer this fall at Lakeland College. The Sheboygan, Wis., school should field a pretty good team with Kingsford’s Libby DeClark and Niagara’s Stephanie Rock.
