Early Halloween gift

October 23, 2013 - Nikki Younk
I recently received a rather fitting early Halloween gift — a whole pile of candy. And it’s not just any candy, mind you. It’s Japanese candy.

What makes Japanese candy so amazing? It’s all about the variety of flavors. Sure you have your typical strawberries, grapes, and apples, but there are so much more.

In my latest stash, I have gummy, jelly, and hard candy in flavors such as pomegranate, cantaloupe, cola, mango, peach, and something called a yuzu (it’s a citrus fruit that tastes like a combination of orange, lemon, and grapefruit). All are delicious and contain natural juices.

However, adventurous flavors aren’t always successful. While flavors like grapefruit and lychee may sound intriguing, their taste is absolutely repulsive. There are more hits than misses, though.

Check out the photo at right to see the entire candy stash. Yes, I actually spent time arranging my candy for a photo shoot. Don’t judge.
