Bragging Rights and a Soft Pillow
December 24, 2013 - Theresa Proudfit
On a tip from our news editor Jim Anderson I discovered the Westin O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois is offering a special "Packer Challenge" promotion this coming weekend. Packer fans who book a two-night stay at the Westin O'Hare next weekend will receive their second night free if Green Bay prevails. "We're not worried about the Packers beating our Bears in the regular season finale-especially when it's being played at Soldier Field," says Westin O'Hare General Manager Pete Demay. "We've backed our Bears all year long and welcome any and all Packers fans to take us up on our challenge." Reported Fox 32 news out of Chicago.
I figure the hotel isn't considering this a big risk. Anderson says the hotel is probably willing to take the loss with such a big promotion. This isn't my first disagreement with a Packer fan this week.
As I've mentioned before my husband is a Packer fan and he has been taking jabs at me all week. I just wanted to sit home, relax and watch the Bears game Sunday night, but I found that to be really nauseating. Not just the game itself, but also the snickers and cheers from a house full of Packer fans.
Sunday's game is going to be interesting. The Bears and Packers square off for NFC North title at 3:25 p.m. at Soldier Field. I don't see either team headed for the super bowl, but it will establish bragging rights in our house for the next few months.
Although I really expect to have those rights after Sunday's game I sometimes wonder if it's worth it. If the Bear's prevail I get to do my happy dance and taunt the family until next season but that also means the Packers lost and I have to endure all the poor loser excuses and bad attitudes that come along with the package.
Realistically life would be easier for me if the Packers won. Then again life would be easier for me if I were a Packer fan. But I'm not one to take the easy road. Since I was a teenager I've taken the road to Soldier Field and that has made all the difference.
Any local Bear fans have a room for me on their couch for Sunday nights game and possibly the following two days? I just need a soft pillow. I'd watch it in Chicago but I can't afford the second nights stay at the Westin. Go Bears!
