City life vs. country life

March 21, 2014 - Evan Reid
At 18, I “got out” of the U.P. and moved to Grand Rapids. Thinking back now, it’s hard to say what I thought I was getting out of exactly. During the past few years downstate I would daydream about the life back home... The landscape, the fresh air, the ample parking space...

The other day I took a walk with my sister down the road near my parents’ house in Faithorn. We stopped talking and stood still for a second. There were no cars on the road, no dogs barking... Just silence and a tranquility that was hard to find in Grand Rapids.

Living in the city was fun, and there was “more to do” in a way, but for now I’m glad to back in the country. I’m looking forward to relaxing in the sun, campfires, jet skiing...

I haven’t had a summer up here in a few years. Summer in the U.P. is the best... Just waiting for winter to end like everyone else in the area.
