Doesn't kick dogs

September 16, 2009 - Blaine Hyska
She doesn’t kick dogs.

That’s about the only good thing I can say about our governor, Jennifer Granholm.

Other than that, she the worst governor ever — of any state in any period of history.

She’s ruined Michigan. The only jobs she’s created are the ones at the unemployment office. Thousands are leaving the state every year.

Michigan’s population has dropped four straight years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Michigan had a population of 10,003,422 in 2008; 10,049,790 in 2007; 10,083,878 in 2006; and 10,093,266 in 2005.

That’s great if you don’t enjoy prosperity. But those types of folks are holed up in the caves of Afghanistan.

With a jobless rate at 15 percent, Michigan is a poster child for unemployment. It leads the nation year after year, month after month.

Do you see a trend here? How has she been able to do so much for us?

She accomplishes this by consistently supporting higher fees and taxes on residents and businesses. Granholm’s think tank (the bottom floor of a two-story outhouse) believes Michigan residents are not paying enough.

For instance, to balance next year’s budget, Granholm proposes raising $546 million in tax revenue. She wants to tax each bottle of water sold in Michigan, expand the 6 percent sales tax to service contracts, vending machine sales and live entertainment, including sporting events, increase the cigarette tax rate from $2 a pack to $2.25, increase liquor license fees, and slash business tax breaks.

She’s also a strong supporter of limiting expansion.

What’s her answer to the new electric cars, which will increase power demands throughout the state? It’s the Clean, Renewable and Efficient Energy Act, which increases electric bills, and discourages construction of new power plants.

The theory is if you have to pay enough for electricity, you’ll use less.

Smart move — if you live in Afghanistan.
