Three centennials to celebrate this year

June 27, 2014 - Nikki Younk
1914 must have been quite the year. Not one, not two, but three area municipalities were incorporated that year.

That means that 2014 is truly the year of the centennial celebration. Happy 100th Birthday to Niagara, Alpha, and Pembine!

Niagara’s centennial is going on now through Sunday at Heights Park. A $15 button will get you into the park, where you can enjoy food, live music, carnival rides, and more.

Alpha will celebrate turning 100 next week, from July 3 through 5, at locations throughout the village. Music, a 5K run, a historical radio play, a street dance, a parade, and kids’ games are all on the schedule.

Pembine’s centennial will take place the first weekend in August. I haven’t been able to find a schedule of events yet, but you can be sure I’ll check into it. Watch the paper for details!
