Turn lane for turning only

Motorists who drive in Iron Mountain and Kingsford need to know that turning onto U.S. 2 or Carpenter Avenue into the middle turn lane is illegal and dangerous. The other night I just about got side-swiped while driving on U.S. 2 in Quinnesec. It was dark and it was as if the other vehicle didn’t see me - had I not moved over to the right lane, the vehicle which had decided to cruise in the middle turn lane before entering the correct lane of travel would have hit me. That vehicle continued to speed down U.S. 2 into the city of Iron Mountain. I was waiting for it to be pulled over for speeding or causing an accident. Obviously that didn’t happen then, but if motorists don’t learn the rules of the road a very serious injury accident is going to occur. Quoting a state policeman he said this about the middle turn lane, “It’s not a travel lane, it’s a turn lane.” By the way, I agree the speed limit on U.S. 2 in front of the commercial businesses and the hospital should be lowered. Too many accidents occur on that stretch.
