Ludington Street gets crowded

July 14, 2014 - Nikki Younk
The 200 block of East Ludington Street recently became the most happening place in town. And get this — it’s not because the offices of The Daily News are located there. In fact, a brand-new Mexican restaurant has opened up AND a nearby bar has expanded into the space next door.

Good food and beer have certainly attracted the masses. It’s good to see progress in the downtown area.

On the other hand...with this influx of people and their vehicles, I have been having the worst time trying to find a parking space close to The Daily News. City dwellers will surely make fun of me (and they should), but I’ve never had to park more than one block away from any destination in Iron Mountain. These days, I’m regularly parking two or three blocks away and making the long, grueling trek to the office on foot.

I’m kind of (almost, maybe) enjoying the extra exercise at the moment, but I doubt I’ll feel the same in six months when my three-block journey takes me through six-inch snow drifts and subzero temperatures. I clearly need to toughen up...and invest in some good footwear.
