Loss of memories

October 5, 2009 - Lisa Reed
Because of a road project in Florence County that used sand from the Sand Hill in Dunbar, Wis. as fill, a historic sledding hill has been destroyed. My family members, friends and I used this sledding hill since we were children. We always looked forward to going to the Sand Hill on a nice winter day. We enjoyed going super fast down the hill on an inner tube or a plastic sled. And we would hold contests to see who could go the farthest distance. The walk back up the hill was never fun, but a good workout. Our parents would have a camp fire, and all of us kids would roast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate. Spending the entire day at the hill and not leaving until dark was tradition. Even as I got into my adult years, I enjoyed going sledding at this hill. Also many of my friends from Dunbar enjoyed taking their children to the sled hill. I will always remember sledding at the Sand Hill, but this year I will have to find a new hill. But whatever hill that may be, it will not compare to the Sand Hill in Dunbar.
