Food stamps not fair

November 12, 2009 - Lisa Reed
So as I was in the checkout of a local grocery store the other day, I happened to notice the man in front of me who paid for a few bags of groceries with food stamps. After spending more than $150 in food stamps, the man only had to pay about $5. On top of that, the form of payment he used was a check - he wrote a check for $5 to pay for his groceries that food stamps didn’t cover. I was taken back by this because when I paid for my groceries, the total was $130. I, of course, paid for this without food stamps. And I didn’t write a check. Now I don’t know what his situation is, but state and government funding is corrupt. My husband and I, according to income requirements of a family of two, make too much to even be considered for food stamps or heating assistance to name a few state and government funded programs. It’s just not fair. We work full-time and pay for all our own expenses. We do not rely on state or government funding, and in the end, we are the ones paying more in taxes. I am sure it is to support those who supposedly need the assistance more than we do. Once again, it’s just not fair. As a friend of mine put it, the food stamp man will be spending the rest of his (state or government) money at a local tavern. I hope that isn’t true, but it mostly likely is!
