White House gate crashers made for reality TV
December 3, 2009 - Marguerite Lanthier
Michaele and Tareq Salahi are a reality television match made in heaven. How is it no one has booked these two on a reality television show. VH1, where’s the “Networking with the Salahis.” E, forget about keeping up with the Kardashians, try keeping up with the Salahis. Even their names scream reality TV. According to their Facebook page, they are a couple of social butterflies who count polo, wine and diplomatic relations as among their many interests. How could you go wrong with a couple, who so brazenly disregard e-mails saying they most certainly won’t be on the guest list of a White House state dinner and conveniently miss a cell phone call saying they weren’t invited, only show up anyway and get in. Sorry my cell phone was dead. Who hasn’t pulled that one. Later they e-mailed to say thanks for putting them on a list they weren’t really on. Brilliant! And they even posted pictures of Michaele shaking the president’s hand, with Tareq hovering in the background. Of course the couple has been accused before of attending an event they weren’t invited to. They planted themselves at a $10,000 a seat table at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Awards dinner on Sept. 26 at which Obama spoke, only to be escorted out when someone complained. That would be one of the best parts of a reality show ... the suspense building ... will they get to stay through the first course. Michaele is currently trying to get on Bravo’s ‘‘The Real Housewives of D.C,’’ and they really should sign her up before someone else gets the idea.
