25 years and counting

December 31, 2009 - Linda Lobeck
I recently interviewed a couple of ladies who had worked in their professions for 20 and 30 years. While that seems a long time, I reflected on the fact that I am finishing my 25th year here at The Daily News, will celebrate my 24th wedding anniversary in April 2010 and will have a milestone birthday in September 2010. All these things indicate a commitment to my job and my marriage and the fact that I’m just getting old! One of the people I talked with who had been in her job for 30 years told me that she decided on this career while in junior high. Finally, someone who knew early on, like I did, what they wanted to do in life. My kids think I am a little odd to have selected my career while in the eighth grade and starting to write for the high school newspaper. I was hooked and decided what my career path would be. Although my first job was working for an AM/FM radio station downstate, I continued to look for a job with a newspaper. Luckily I was able to find work back in the U.P. and became a part of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford community. Despite the many changes in the field over the years, I would like to continue to be a newspaper reporter for the remainder of my career. I see the value in presenting the news and covering a variety of meetings and features in the local area. It’s never been a dull job or boring and I have met some wonderful people over the years. I hope that 2010 is a better year economically for all local businesses and we continue to count on the newspaper for complete coverage of what’s happening here and nationally!
