Puppy adjusts to its new home

February 12, 2010 - Lisa Reed
We picked up our new puppy, a Plott Hound, on Sunday afternoon. She is eight weeks old, brindle-colored with brown eyes and very playful. She loves to chew on stuff. So far she has tried to chew on our slippers, our couch blankets, rugs, and my hair! She drank out of my glass of water the other night, so I had to get a new one. On Monday morning, she tried to steal Pat’s lunch tote. She loves to cuddle. She is now the proud owner of one of my cats toys. She has already chewed a leg off of it. She hasn’t gotten going to the bathroom outside down pat yet, so she continues to work on that. We still have to name her. So far Pat likes the name Cindy, but is in no hurry to name her that. Other names I like are Cinnamon, Coco, Autumn, Ginny and Gabby. I will now answer questions from my Nov. 20 blog “Hunting pup will be new addition.” Our dog that was fatally hit at 55 mph was bear hunting when she made it from deep in the woods to the highway. Before she could be picked up, she was hit by a truck and trailer. Yes our dogs live outside. All the dogs have collars, their own house and are given hay in the winter. They are fed and watered everyday. As for our cat, he lives inside, but makes his way outside when the weather is nice. He is neutered, so he doesn’t stray too far from home and comes in every night. Our neighbors and just about everyone on our road knows us and our dogs, and they do not have a problem with them. That is one of the reasons we live out of town. Our new puppy joins our three male and three female bear hunting dogs - Slim, Lumpy, Legs, Penny, JZ and Macy.
