| | Gardening season upon usMay 17, 2010 - Lisa ReedIt’s time to plant the garden. That means I will be busy with harvesting all the vegetables real soon. My husband is so prepared for this year’s season. He planted several vegetables, including cabbage, tomatoes, and peppers in planters and kept them in the house since late February. Every day he checked them, turned on the grow light (a florescent valance) nightly and a fan for a few hours to give the plants a breeze so they are strong. Since the weather has been nice, the plants have been moved outdoors during the day and warmer evenings. This past week, Pat planted the hardier-type vegetables, including potatoes, onions, carrots, peas and green beans, in the garden. He is really looking forward to planting his corn, asparagus and flowers. It won’t be long until the garden vegetables will be keeping me busy. It’s my job to harvest all of them (with Pat’s help, of course). This year I hope we have a better tomato crop than last year as I am looking forward to learning how to can them and make spaghetti sauce and salsa. I am also trying my hand at growing herbs this year. So far, my parsley, basil, mint and rosemary are surviving. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
