Avoid Hughitt and U.S. 2
May 18, 2010 - Nikki Younk
Has anybody else noticed the change in timing of traffic lights in downtown Iron Mountain?
Almost every day, I drive from Norway to Iron Mountain and from Iron Mountain to Norway at the same times. After doing this for over two years, I was able to time my trips perfectly. Drive slower between some lights, drive faster between others. Is this good driving? Probably not. But, hey, that’s not my point.
Within the last week or so, I noticed that I was off. Especially with the three downtown lights. The light at Ludington Street would stay red while the lights at A Street and B Street would turn green.
This messes me up on my trip into Iron Mountain in the morning, but the ride home is great. Almost non-stop green lights.
I wouldn’t have a complaint at all, except for the case of Hughitt Street (which is the one between Ludington and A that has no light). With the new light timing, it’s nearly impossible to go straight or make a left turn from Hughitt across U.S. 2. While traffic from the direction of A Street has green, traffic from the direction of Ludington is stopped (and vice versa). There are no breaks.
Bottom line, skip the Hughitt/U.S. 2 intersection and go to a light. You’ll thank me later.
