Whiskey for a win
June 15, 2010 - Marguerite Lanthier
A German soccer fan from India has pledged to drink from a bottle of whiskey he buried 16 years ago if Germany wins the World Cup.
Forty-two-year old Putal Bora, who stopped drinking alcohol in 2002, says he’ll be ready to celebrate with a drink if Germany lifts the trophy.
“I shall resume drinking only when Germany lifts the Cup. No one can lure me to consume alcohol before that,” he said.
Now, I’m not holding myself to the no drinking pledge, but if the U.S. lifts the Cup, I’ll drink whiskey.
Anyone who knows me knows this is a major sacrifice on my part. I’m fond of the saying, “whiskey bad,” and can’t stand the stuff.
So I’m making this pledge, not to drink whiskey until the U.S. wins the World Cup. Heck if they make it to the final four, i’ll put a glass of Crown Royal to my lips. So go for it U.S., make me a whiskey drinker.
But don’t hold your breath on my doing what Argentina’s coach has vowed if his team wins the World Cup — streaking through the streets.
