Smoking ban benefits all

July 2, 2010 - Lisa Reed

I am all for the Smoke Free Air Law that took effect in Michigan on May 1 and will take effect in Wisconsin on July 5. Let me first say I think those who smoke around others who do not smoke are rude when they partake in the act. It’s different if a non-smoker is in a bar atmosphere where smoking and drinking alcohol are common place. You put yourself in that atmosphere. But while in the home or vehicle of someone who does not smoke, lighting up there is rude. So with the new Smoke Free Air Law, my health and the health of the others around me who do not smoke will not be jeopardized while inside a public place. For those who will now go to establishments because they are smoke free, you will find out what you have been missing all along. And for those who smoke and won’t be able to at their favorite tavern or restaurant, there is always the great outdoors. Or there is the option to quit, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW. I write this as the wife of a smoker who recently started smoking 99 percent of his cigarettes outside of our home. I occasionally catch him with a cigarette lit inside the home and he is warned when he violates our new rule.
