Summer vacation half done?
July 13, 2010 - Terri Castelaz
You know summer is almost over when you start seeing the back-to-school ads in the paper and catalogs featuring the latest trends in fashion and accessories.
We received a Justice catalog in the mail recently, which triggered my 10-year-old daughter, Payton’s curiosity to ask just how many days until school starts.
When I told her she only had a month and a half left, she got a very unhappy look on her face.
She quickly stated that I was totally wrong because they just got out of school and has “hardly” been on vacation. Also claiming she has “hardly” done anything this summer.
Anybody that knows Payton is probably laughing right now. She is the girl who is never home.
She then went on to say she hasn’t seen most of her friends yet and we haven’t gone to her cousin’s house in Oshkosh, Wis. yet.
I had to tell her well she needs to be home to do these things. She decided to go camping with her friend and her family to Eagle River, Wis. last week instead of going with me when I was on vacation to Oshkosh.
I had to also let her know, the month of June was spent going to softball games and now July and part of August will be spent going to soccer, which is my favorite sport to watch — not.
It’s funny how she is now realizing how fast the summer goes bye.
She finally did accept the fact that her vacation was half over and asked when can we go school clothes shopping?
