Something IS Going On
August 3, 2010 - Theresa Proudfit
Parents hear it every day. "I'm bored" or "There is nothing to do in this town". I know I said it when I was growing up. Now that I am grown up, however, I completely disagree. Working at the paper I see first hand what is going on in our area and there is plenty. My summer has been extremely busy. Let's see, almost every Sunday and Wednesday you can see a Skiiter's show, every Thursday in downtown Iron Mountain you can hear live music while you eat your lunch, you can play Bingo almost any week night and we have a farmers market on Saturdays. The Dickinson County library and Community Schools have several programs for kids through out the summer. Already this summer I've been to the Hog Wild Barbecue, the Rodeo, Pine Mountain Hill Climb, Aurora Mudd Runs, Art for All. Relay for life and Bass Fest. We have several nice lakes like Cowboy and Lake Antoine, the Menominee River and Pine River for tubing, fishing, swimming etc. We have mini golf and go-kart racing, The Norway Speedway, campgrounds, hiking trails, white water rafting, a roller rink, beautiful parks and museums, an Iron Mine (which by the way is a super way to cool down on sweltering days). You can go berry picking, the Crystal Lake Community center has a swimming pool and racket ball, there are ball parks, golf courses and tennis courts... and all that was off the top of my head. Now that the month of August has started and we can look forward to the Prop-Busters Fly-in, Keyes Lake Summerfest, Italian Fest, Fungus Fest, The Just Cruisin' Car show and The Dickinson County Fair. We a blessed to live in a community that has so much to offer. So if you are bored pick up the paper. I'm sure you can find something going on.
