Autumn is here

October 7, 2010 - Lisa Reed
Fall has arrived. It is October, and all the orange, yellow and red colored leaves on the trees make for a beautiful scene down any country road. (My favorite drive is County B in Aurora to County U toward Dunbar). Leaves are falling and the yard is full of leaves to be raked before the snow falls. Don’t know which one I am least interested in - raking leaves or dealing with snow. Either way, something has to be done about both of them. And now that the growing season in the garden has ended, it’s time to harvest the garden’s heartier vegetables. It’s also time to enjoy squash and decorate the house for Halloween with corn stalks, pumpkins and gourds. The cooler nights and frosty mornings are also a reminder of what type of weather is to come. Furnaces have officially been turned on in this chilly weather. And it’s time for Crockpot meals again. There is nothing better than coming home from a long day of work, cozying up on the couch and eating a bowl of chili on a cool fall day.
