Our mini mite

November 9, 2010 - Ron Deuter
At three years old, Jake is one of the youngest kids in his mini mite hockey league. My wife and I weren’t sure what to expect. His first practice went great. For only being on ice one time in his life, he sure took to it fast. He had no problem moving around on his own with the pusher. The second practice ended early when Jake took a spill and decided he was done. He cried, but not out of pain. He was crying out of anger and frustration. That’s Jake’s personality. We’ll see how things progress. We’re not going to push him. He showed an interest in hockey and skating, so we signed him up. If it turns out to be too much, we’ll hold him off for another year or so. At this point, we’ll let him set the pace. Our goal by signing him up so young was simply for him to have fun and feel more comfortable on skates.
