High speed rail not needed

November 9, 2010 - Lisa Reed
I agree with Wisconsin Gov.-elect Scott Walker that a high speed train line from Madison to Milwaukee is not warranted. Walker recently said “he doesn’t see anything that would make him change his mind that the project is a boondoggle and a waste of taxpayer money.” Totally true. The drive from Milwaukee to Madison is just over one hour. That’s how long it takes to get from Niagara to Crivitz or from Crivitz to Green Bay and high speed rails are not proposed for those areas. The state has just recently expanded the two lane highway from Abrams to Crivitz. Before any money is spent on a high speed rail from one city to another, the state needs to focus on improving its roadways. Although money for the high speed rail between Madison and Milwaukee is federal stimulus money, that money has to be paid back by us - the taxpayers - and could be better spent on something much more needed. Or better yet not spent at all!
