Decorating challenges

December 2, 2010 - Terri Castelaz
The challenges of decorating for the holidays with a 2 year old.

I really wanted to put out some of the “nicer” decorations I didn’t get to use last year since I only put up a select few things, due to the fact Tessa would take everything that was on the table or rearranged the ornaments on the tree.

My first dilemma was should I use glass ornaments or stick to the “shatter proof” ones? This was a quick decision since it only took her seconds to figure out that I was about to place the ornaments on the tree, so of course she insists “I help.” By the way, these “shatter proof” balls may not shatter, but they definitely still break. Tessa managed to crush it with one hand.

I have also been rearranging decorations on a daily basis. Tessa has now managed to dismantle numerous snowmen, one loosing an arm, another had his nose removed and two more are now blind. The hot glue gun has been getting a workout. She didn’t just stick to the snowmen she also broke several other items I thought were “unbreakable.” I now know nothing is safe. So anything with any sentimental value will be keep boxed for at least another year.
