Holiday birthdays

January 4, 2011 - Nikki Younk
I promised to write a very special birthday here it is. Enjoy.

I'll come right out and say it. There are some times of the year that just aren't good for birthdays. Holidays. A friend's or family member's birthday. Or, worst of all, the end of the holiday season.

I fall into that wretched last category. My birthday, January 4, is today. By this time of the year, everyone's burned out from Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. Kids are going back to school after Christmas break. Adults are going back to work after their vacations. Stores are still out of stock on key items. Also, it's so so cold outside.

Makes me wish I was born in July, instead.

At least I'm not alone. I have the good fortune to come from a family of people with bad birthday dates. My mom's birthday is October 31 (Halloween), my dad's birthday is December 26 (day after Christmas), my stepdad's birthday is December 27 (two days after Christmas), my sister's birthday is November 2 (two days after Halloween AND two days after my mom's birthday), my brother's birthday is July 3 (day before Independence Day), my grandma's birthday is February 14 (Valentine's Day), and my uncle's birthday is February 14 (Valentine's Day and the same day as his mother's birthday.)

At least we're all in the same boat.
